Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing 30 million USD of funding in 2022 to develop our unique technology.
Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!
Inside the Quantum Hardware and Infrastructure departement, the team “Cryostat Hardware Characterization & Screening” is in charge of developing, setting up, operating and maintaining the cryostat and cryohardware required to operate our superconducting chips. Cryostats are dilution systems, reaching 10mK, and cryohardware is composed of wiring, RF passive components, various shielding and amplification systems (LNA and Quantum limited amplifiers). The tasks of the team are : - designing/assembling the system for new cryostats - evaluating/selecting suppliers/solutions for better performance and higher density - qualifying the systems (verification and validation) - operating the systems (managing the cooldown cycles, adapting the cabling when necessary for new chips or cabling schemes).
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cryostat Operation Engineer to oversee and manage the cooldown process for new superconductor chips. He will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe transition of new chips to cryogenic temperatures, as well as maintaining the integrity the cryostat systems and utilities.

Responsibilities: - Preparation of each cooldown : review of cabling/modifications to be done, preparation of required parts, detailed scheduling
- Cooldown Process Management: oversee the warmup of the fridge, the modification of wiring, and the controlled cooldown of new chips in cryostat systems, ensuring regular checks and monitoring to meet design specifications and safety standards.
- Cryostat System Oversight: Manage the operation, maintenance, and calibration of cryostat systems, ensuring they function at optimal efficiency. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to cryogenic cooling, vacuum systems, and thermal control components.
- Infrastructure maintenance : manage preventive and corrective maintenance; ensure the smooth running of the utilities on site (cooling water, AC, compressed air)
- Process Improvement: continuously evaluate and improve cooldown procedures and protocols, identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency (technical feedback, best practices etc..), reduced cooldown times, or increased reliability of cryostat systems.
- Documentation and SOPs: Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all cooldown processes and ensure all technical documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
- When necessary, contribute to the other projects of the team (qualification, tests…)
Requirements: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience in managing the cooldown and testing of superconductor devices, particularly under cryogenic conditions, is beneficial.
- This role requires a strong background in cryogenics, electrical engineering, and mechanics, along with hands-on experience.
- Skills: Strong understanding of cryogenics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles, meticulous, excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, strong communication and collaboration abilities, with an ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, safety-conscious mindset
Benefits:- 25-day vacation policy (as per French law) + RTT
- Half of transportation cost coverage (as per French law), or yearly allowance for the die-hard bicycle users
- Competitive health benefits with Helium/Axa
- Meal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped kitchen
- Parental benefits with crèche support
- Flexible remote policy, up to 40 % a month
- Language courses covered by the company
